What file is it identifying as Kazaa Lite?

As for the other files you may want to check the Quarantine and logs to make sure that the other files weren't simply moved.

Oh, yeah, click on the About button.  Which version of the software are you running?

Version 1.6.0  (Build 6) using Spy definitions 192
Free version

I would not normally have thought of buying a Spyware  Sweeper as I thought I was well protected (with Spyware Blaster, Spyware Guard, Spyware S&D and Adaware.)

However they did not find the following:

(Alexa toolbar) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\CmdMapping || {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a}

c:\windows\temp\bullguard\bulldownload.exe

c:\program files\kazaa lite\cd_clint.dll  (this is a dummy file not spyware)

Mark,

Thanks for trying it out.  I thought we had the problem with the dummy file licked but I guess not.  Makes me glad we put that warning in the system.  In the mean time, v1.7 is becoming available soon, so you might want to try that out as well.

Version 1.7 of the Spy Sweeper is out, so you may want to check that out.  It can be downloaded from the same address.

Hello Mr. McLean,

If you're still monitoring this thread I have some questions re SS version 2.0 which I think is the latest version.  I downloaded the trial and was quite happy with it, especially the easy to use interface which to me is worth paying for compared with much less intuitive interface of Spy Bot.  But I saw a review (I think in PC World?) which said that SS caused great instability in Win XP when run with Norton AV such that a reformat of the HD was necessary!!!  I've also read posts saying it has serious incompatibilites with Windows Media Player WMA files and Windows Update and perhaps other programs as well.  I have a lot of programs running in the background including Diskeeper, Quicken, Drive Image, etc and am very worried about potential incompatibilities with Spy Sweeper.  For these reasons I untinstalled the trial version.

It also seems to use a lot of memory when running in the background (around 18 megs on my system).

If you can provide good evidence that it is stable and safe to run with the above programs (and games Razz ) I will purchase the program.
 Thanks for any help,
                                    Carl

Yeppers, I'm still here.  I probably should have posted again when v2.0 went up, but things have been mighty busy.  v2.1 will be out later next week, so I'll try and post that announcement then.

As for PC Mag, Webroot Software provided PC Magazine a copy of the program that was not ready for release, which is the primary reason for the negative review. Anticipating a review of similar competing products, Webroot hastily provided PC Magazine version 1.03, a beta version of the program that was not ready for...well for much of anything.  However, the latest version of the software is a major improvement.

I agree that Spy Sweeper does take up a great deal of memory when running in the background.  I'm pushing to get this fixed in a later version.  Unless you have reason to want the Memory Shield running, I would go into Options -> Schedule and take the check out of Load at Startup.  This will fix that problem and you can run a scan whenever you want.

I hope this answers your questions.  If not, just let me know.

Thanks for your reply.  I'll certainly take a close look at 2.1 when it comes out!

Certain spyware manufacturers have begun to build their software so it shoots back.  V2.1 is designed to better handle items like this.

I am working with a customer who has installed spysweeper on his system. Unfortunatly, the product of ours that he is trying to use works something like a popup.

I understand that spysweeper has a built in pop up blocker. The customer has no idea why spysweeper is installed on his system so has opted to remove it.

When trying to remove spysweeper from his system we encounter an error in the uninstall process that a file "unspysweeper.ex.exe" is unable to execute.

I am going to probably see about taking over his machine in a little bit today to take a look in it and see what is going on, however, .. Is this a known issue?
