Hello everybody.

I got a problem in my laptop this morning, when I reboot my PC it showed this error message:

“A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation, or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x81BA1368, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)”

It would not allow me to start the computer in any safe mode or last good configuration.

I don't have a windows CD only my Restore CD that came with my PC but it only give me the option to Delete all my Hard Drive or Reformat it.

I search a litle bit on the problem and I read about runing the chkdsk /f but don't know how to do that since I can't even get into the DOS prompt.

If I can fix the problem it's ok but It'll be ok if I'm just able to back up some files....

Can anyone help me ???

See this:

1. XP's No-Reformat, Nondestructive Total-Rebuild Option

2. Also: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912848

3. Maybe you can borrow an XP CD  from someone and choose the "repair" option of the Recovery Console during the boot process. That should get you to the point where you can do the "chkdsk /f" on the C drive.
