I saw an ad for a certain product on television (it remains nameless since I'm not interested in giving them free advertising). Their ad directed me to a website offering a dollar off coupon for their product. I use it, so I figured what the heck, I'll get the coupon.
The link for the coupon sent me to a website run by brightstreet.com where they asked a half dozen questions about other products I use. Still ok. I don't really care too much about that since I could easily lie if I was off the deep end paranoid.
The next page gives me a link that required me to authorize the download/install of a a java applet before the coupon would print.
WHOA! Java to print a coupon? I downloaded the JAR file, renamed it to ZIP and opened it with Winzip. Inside the JAR was an install.js file, a DLL file, and a few other goodies.
I posted the file to my website
here. Could someone wise in the ways of analyzing binaries and/or java see if there is anything to be concerned about? I've lost interest in the coupon regardless, but my curiosity compels me to ask.
