Is it me or do tripod.com seem to be having more shit coming up with their popups? by shit I mean HOTBAR downloads, activex controls and now something has just tried to open up windows media player!!! I have my activex controls on the sighest security settings without actually turning plugins off. I'm one step from turning them off now  Mad  Im also one step from not viewing any tripod.com sites. In the last hour on the net, hot bar has come up with a download request. Naturally I cancelled (it would have installed itself I'm sure had my security settings not been so high) This isnt the first time this has happened whilst viewing tripod.com sites. It seems tripod.com (not the countrywide domains, just the .com) are purveyors of spyware. They sure know how to piss me off Mad

Tripod never gave me any popups, but I've got a pretty good popup blocker, I rarely get any problems, but I do notice a download prompt when I visit cjb.net sites, thats very obnoxious.  I don't even go to tripod anymore, I hate em!  They give you all that free bandwidth then the second you upload anything they cancel your account for violating the terms of agreement.  I'd say move your tripod stuff (if you have an account there)  to fortune city, upload everything on fortune city and link it, then use geocities, they never shut down peoples accounts.

I suppose I ought to get a popup stopper really. I dont use FWP's any more, especially tripod lol. I seemed to find a lot of tripod sites earlier that came up with loads of popups. Your right about CJB.net. They come up with some crap these days as well. I purchaced my own domain and webspace a year or so ago and wouldnt look back now. I cant see how someone like cjb.net can charge $9.95 a year to remove adverts from the cjb.net subdomain when you can buy a real domain for a similar price.

I use Mozilla Firebird (www.mozilla.org) which is far better than IE and has a built in popup blocker.

do you have the link for the site that tried to open windows' media player?  i'd suggest downloading all of the windows media player patches (though i don't necessarily suggest installing the new windows media player)

Free Google toolbar has a first-rate popup blocker. http://toolbar.google.com.
