What would be the best free web space providers... im not even sure what they're called. I heard of Geocities, FortuneCity, freewebs.com, ProHosting (im not sure what it is). But im sure theres gotta be one thats considered the top one.

Could anyone help me out with this... it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

edit: I also wouldnt want a site that promotes adware or puts spyware on ur computer... or anything like that (although I originally thought that would be self-evident, i decided to mention it anyway)

Hey MetalDemon, it really depends on what your looking to do.  If you plan on uploading files like .zip or .mpeg or .mp3 then your going to need a service that is more leniant (brain fart, can't remember spelling?) towards uploads like that, and one that allows those file types to be uploading.  Like you mentioned, I've had the best experiences with FortuneCity, I've had an account with numerous zip files and the likes, and I've never had my account deleted.  Now if your looking to make a more SIMPLE web page, which a lot of people are, I'd recommend geocities.com.  In my experience they NEVER delete accounts, and althought they don't allow videos, mp3's and what not to be uploaded, if your making a simple page this is perfect.  Plenty of space for pictures, and you can put up whatever you want without getting deleted.  Now if you are more experienced with javascript, or something of that sort, and you need a cgi-bin to upload files to, I'd say use tripod.com, although they are very quick to delete accounts, atleast in my experience.  That's about the best of my knowledge on fwp's, hope it helps  Wink

If that's what you want to do, I'm starting to think because they don't allow anything besides picture files to be uploaded, and because they have so many users, they've gotten lazy and don't do any sort of check what so ever.  Then again they might do one of those "skin tone" check things that I think was discussed on this site, not sure where I heard about them.  I really have no concrete evidence about geocities's enforcement of their policies, I just know I've never heard of anyone getting deleted from geocities.  And I've seen some controversial stuff on geocities accounts.
