Yeah, I noticed it today too.  They got rid of the ad-square.

I think they did it because so many people were bypassing it with scripts, like this one, right here on cexx.org: http://www.cexx.org/geostain.htm

I didn't really mind the ad-square, because you could close it, but it was still annoying.  Unfortunately the new ones are more annoying.

After taking down the ad-square, the geniuses got this great idea to use an ad-frame instead.  It takes up the whole right side of the window and pushes the rest of the page to the left.  Because of this, many pages get distorted and do not display correctly.  The ad-frame can be minimized, but not closed, and they open again every time to go to a different page.

Fortunately, good old cexx.org already has a script to bypass ad-frames too, and it works with this new Geocities monstrosity: http://www.cexx.org/adframes.htm (when they said it works on all hosts, I guess they weren't kidding)

Problem solved before it started.

(btw -- my first day at this website... as you can see I've already looked around a bit... this whole site really kicks ass.)

Oh, and it doesn't say it on the page, but I think you have to put the script somwehere within the <body> tags.

Anyway, use that and the new Geocities ad will be history.

Michael, I almost had a heartattack when I saw those huge frame ads that took up a third of my entire site. I spent 3 years enduring Geocities ad-crap and they pull something like this, which is worse than anything they've ever done.

Thank you, SO MUCH -- I could hug ya right now. You really saved me from just deleting my website in full. It's going to take me a week or two to get this code on all my pages, but I'm very happy that hope is not lost.

Thanks again, Michael.

No problem.

Actually, I was about to delete my website too, and go find a different free host, but I decided to do some research first.  I found this site yesterday while I was trying to find a way to kill the new ads.

Since they just installed the ad-frame yesterday, I didn't think anyone would know how to get rid of it yet, but apparently the type of ad-frame Geocities is using now is really nothing new.  We can thank Cexx.org for being one step ahead already.

Switching hosts for me would have been a real pain in the ass.  Geocities is a great host, as long as they don't pull crap like this.  I mean, normally I would be against undermining the Geocities ads, because it is most definitely against their rules, but when they make ads that take up that much of the webpage, they really deserve it.  Maybe when they start getting hate-mail about the ad-frame, they'll switch back to the ad-square, which is much easier to destroy.

unfortunately, this code does not allow you to click 'back' -- you can't go back with this code!

it blocks the pop-up ads, but if you right click and click 'back' it keeps you on the same page!

geocities has really done it now. im just going to end my webpage and say forget it. i give up.

It basically forwards you to a version of the page without the ad-frame.  Clicking the "back" button twice (quickly) in this situation will usually get you back where you started.

Wow, this site does kick booty.  Surprised

Well anyway, I have experienced something about geocities. At times, lucky times, it just shows that simple ad-square. And then at times, unlucky times, it shows the complicated adframe. Anyone experienced this?

Thank you Michael! Now I can get rid of the adframes! But when I click the link in my main page, all the frames disappear. The new page just replace the largest frame! Is anyone can solve this problem? It really sucks. The whole site cannot work properly Embarassed

Hi,

I tried to add these lines to my page.

<SCRIPT>
<!--
if(top!=self)
top.location.href=self.location.href;
//-->
</SCRIPT>

Adframe dissapears, that's great but not enough.
I'm using frames and when I click on link to different page on my site target window opens on new page, not in frame and I really hate it.
No use for frames.

So my question is, does anyone know a script which kills adframe and keeps frames ok ? I hope that someone could help me with this.

Thanks!

Here is an esy to use script that kills geocities.yahoo banners alls you do is edit your page and go to insert,down to add html add this script

<p align="center"><iframe src width="1" height="1"
marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" hspace="0" vspace="0"
frameborder="0" scrolling="no">

and name it banner killer so you know what script it is and it will go over anything,so you can put it over a pic etc and it will still work,here is a page that i did

  http://www.geocities.com/nvs_home/home.html?1100834920078

if it doesnt work go to the forums and post in the general discussion sections and i will gladly try to help you but right now its 100% so should work. goodluck and USE AT YOUR OWN RISK cuz it violates the TOS Razz

Yea, I did the same as you yet I did it a little different.

here is the source code I figured out by accident:
The site I used this on is http://www.geocities.com/cracksk8

<table>
<td colspan="0" valign="top" body background="" bgproperties="fixed"><iframe src="http://www.josh.com" frameborder="0" name="scramble" height="0" width="0" scrolling="auto" align="left" resizable=no marginwidth="0" marginheight="0"></iframe></td></table>

You can put it anywere, because it has no deminsions. The Josh.Com is simply a small site that has a little bit of text, so it only takes a fraction of a second to load.
